Prices have been firm in recent days and are likely to remain so into the first quarter, market participants said.

Metal Bulletin’s quotation moved up to $25.30-25.80 per kg in Europe on Friday, from $25.10-25.60 previously, on continuing buying interest.

“[The price] is not rocketing up, but softening is not there either,” he added.

Most concluded deals in Europe have been for less than 10 tonnes in recent days, but there has been continued interest in buying, market participants said.

“It is very tight. Normally, at the end of the year, everyone wants to get rid of their stocks, but that’s not the case this year. It’s very strange,” a producer said.

Market participants should not expect prices to shoot up as high as they did in 2013, however, a second trader said.

“I think ferro-vanadium will follow the same dynamic next year, but I don’t see it getting towards $35 again,” he told Metal Bulletin.
